Book Launch: Mindfulness-Based Supervision and Mentoring Using an Embodied Dialogue to Support Learning and Reflection by Alison Evans and Pamela Duckerin
July 22, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm BST

Join us for the launch of this book that describes a unique mindfulness-based approach to supervision that is both framework and practice driven. Alison and Pamela will share stories and reflections around the content and process of writing.
The mindfulness-based supervision (MBS) framework featured throughout the book is described using the metaphor of the ‘warp’ and ‘weft’ from weaving. This metaphor distinguishes between the consistent threads of the MBS framework- the warp, and the threads that can be adjusted as needed- the weft.
The warp consists of three key threads: the mindful container, the mutual relational inquiry, and the use of pauses and space. These are the vertical threads that ensure supervision is steeped in a mindfulness-based approach. The authors will discuss how this approach was mirrored in their collaborative venture of writing as co-authors, and how this shaped the content.
The weft is the horizontal threads that are woven through the warp and can have different colours and textures depending on what is needed. The weft consists of guiding principles that support safety and integrity, and the various topics that are explored in supervision. The flexibility and adjustability of the weft threads means that the MBS approach can be applied in a range of ways, within different contexts and settings, to supervisees with different developmental needs and using a variety of teaching approaches, as well as mindfulness-based practitioners applying this approach in other areas of their work, including supervision in areas such as psychotherapy and education. The authors will discuss the relevance of the weft threads to the mindfulness field right now. This will include their reflections on their inclusion of interviews with others in the field.
There will be time for questions and responses from the audience hosted by Ted Meissner.
A discount code for purchasing the book from the publisher will be available on the evening.
