Transforming Habits with Mindfulness and Self-Compassion

February 28, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm UTC+0

$500

Do you find yourself falling into unhelpful, well-worn habits that thwart your better intentions again and again? Drs. Robyn Gobin and Tracy Ochester are your guides for this 10 session course combining the skills and practices of mindfulness-based relapse prevention and self-compassion to help transform frustrating behavior patterns so that we can live our lives in closer alignment with what really matters.

A habit is any action performed so often, or that feels so compelling that it happens almost automatically, trading short-term satisfaction for longer-term happiness and well-being. This course is intended for folks who are struggling with some of the most common life-limiting habits such as perfectionism and people pleasing, procrastination, overindulgence, reactivity to strong emotions, overcommitting oneself (not being able to say no), lying, etc. Participants will be guided in a variety of practices and exercises that are designed to help embody the concepts and skills learned throughout the course.

The intentions of this course are to help participants:

develop awareness of personal triggers that lead to habitual reactions, and learn ways to create a space for choice within this seemingly automatic process.

gain an understanding of the role of the nervous system in maintaining and disrupting habits and learn ways to harness its power.

change our relationship to discomfort by expanding our window of presence, learning to recognize challenging emotional and physical experiences and responding to them in more skillful ways.

foster a nonjudgmental, compassionate approach toward ourselves and our experiences.

build a lifestyle that supports both mindfulness practice and life-affirming habits.

This course will be offered online via Zoom. The cost of this 10-session course (9 weekly 2-hour meetings + 4-hour retreat) is $500 (Midwest Alliance of Mindfulness members receive a 20% discount by using discount code MEMBERS20 upon check out). Those with extreme financial need are invited to purchase a pay what you can pass before registering for the course.
