Workshop: Equality Diversity and Inclusion

November 30, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - December 1, 2023 @ 5:00 pm GMT

At the heart of teaching Mindfulness Based Programmes is an engagement with the reality of suffering. This workshop, consisting of two half days, provides an opportunity to reflect on how exclusion and discrimination can cause suffering, a space to consider our responsibilities as supervisors and teachers and to explore together what we can do to be more inclusive and how we can actively promote equality and diversity.

Learning Intentions:

Reflecting upon and raising awareness of the impact of exclusion, discrimination, and stigma
Improving understanding of the Equality Act which seeks to protect individuals from unlawful discrimination and harassment
Identifying which ‘characteristics’ are ‘protected’ and the types of discrimination and harassment which are unlawful
Considering how to actively promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in the mindfulness field
Recognising the importance of raising awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion issues with our supervisees
Who is the training for:

This training is suitable for anyone working within the mindfulness field including teachers (new and established), trainers, supervisors, retreat leaders, mentors and administrators.

What is involved:

We will engage in storytelling, and some active learning exercises as well as discuss case studies of situations that could arise in our work as mindfulness teachers, supervisors, and retreat leads. We will also have the opportunity to explore what practical action we can take to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Training Partner

The Mindfulness Network is a registered charity. We serve the mindfulness community and general public through supervision, retreats and training courses delivered both in-person and via our online platform - the Mindfulness Network Community site. The Mindfulness Network Community Friends (MNCF) is an initiative to engage the wider mindfulness community and reach new audiences through donation-based events and opportunities to practice. Led by a Committee of Volunteers, supported by the Mindfulness Network, we work together to run a programme of events and inspiring content. By developing mindfulness and compassion both internally and through our services, the Mindfulness Network has the intention to reduce/alleviate human suffering, promote well-being and create the conditions in which people, communities and the planet, can flourish. We aim to bring together highly-trained mindfulness-based supervisors, retreat leaders and teacher trainers who all work within Good Practice Standards set out by the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA).
