Projection is a natural tendency of the mind. It happens when we attribute our own thoughts, feelings, or assumptions onto others, often without realizing it. We see the world not as it is, but as it is filtered through our past experiences, beliefs, and emotional states.

For example, if I’m feeling insecure, I might interpret someone’s neutral comment as criticism. If I’m feeling judged internally, I may assume others are judging me. The mind fills in gaps quickly—almost automatically.

And this is important: projection is not a mistake—it’s a protective habit of the mind. It tries to make sense of the world quickly, using old patterns.

But when we are not aware of it, projection can create:
Misunderstandings in relationships
Unnecessary emotional reactions
A sense of separation from others
Mindfulness invites us to pause and gently ask:
👉 “What am I adding to this moment?”

Join us on Tuesday evenings for a one hour group comprised of meditation, discussion, and a QandA. All are welcome… Those that are new and curious about mindfulness and meditation, as well as experienced meditators looking for a group practice.

This is a weekly, free, practice group. Always free, donations gratefully accepted.
