Professor Pittman is an educator, business consultant and creative artist. After twenty plus years with Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies, she started her own consulting business offering organizational leadership and diversity and inclusion planning for companies, non-profits, and educational facilities. With her range of skills, she currently designs and delivers specialized workshops on mindfulness, self-care and compassion, cultural sensitivity and competency, reducing bias through mindful practices and on healing trauma. Lakiba was the Director for the Office of Diversity at Notre Dame de Namur for 6 years and an adjunct professor for 4 years. She’s currently a lecturer at Menlo College teaching Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging in the Workplace, Cultural Expressions in Media, Transition to College, and Race & Racism. Lakiba teaches public and private classes and workshops on mindfulness, compassion, wellness, and self-care. Professor Pittman is currently a doctoral student in Transformative Studies at the California Institute of Integral Arts. Additionally, Lakiba is a Senior Instructor of Compassion with The Compassion Institute and Stanford's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education as well as an Applied Compassion Ambassador. Her research interests include the efficacy of mindfulness-based pedagogies in healing trauma, methods to heal racism and the isms of the day and the power of connection, community and compassion in healing and transforming individuals and communities. Professor Pittman is the author of “Bread Crumbs From The Soul: Finding Your Way Back Home” – a book of her art, poetry and stories from her life.
