Teacher
Kelly is a certified mindfulness teacher, educator, public speaker, and lawyer. Years of stress from teaching, writing and family responsibilities led her to take training programs in mindfulness, meditation, and compassion cultivation. She loved these programs so much that she wanted to teach them to others so that they could learn to deal with high stress and burnout in their work and family lives. She strongly believes in facilitating others’ journey to achieve a more fulfilling balance in their relationships with others, their bodies, and themselves.
She has taught workshops (online and in person) on mindfulness, mindful eating, wellness, stress reduction, and self-compassion to groups of parents, caregivers, healthcare professionals, therapists, social workers, lawyers, business executives, and the public. For the past three years, she has taught online mindfulness courses in Mindful Self-Compassion and Mindful Eating at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA. She has also taught an online Mindful Self-Compassion course to estranged parents.
Kelly has extensive training in evidence-based programs in mindfulness, meditation, and compassion cultivation. She is a Certified Teacher of Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) from Stanford’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) and the Compassion Institute (CI); a Certified Teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) from the University of California, San Diego, Center for Mindfulness; a Qualified-Instructor for Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) with the Mindful Eating Training Institute (METI); a Teacher-in-Training, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) from University of California, San Diego, Center for Mindfulness. She has also served as a facilitator for Thom Bond’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Compassion Course.
She is currently a Professor of Law Emeritus at the UC Law San Francisco (formerly University of California Hastings College of Law) where she taught law and human behavior classes for almost 40 years. She is the author of over two dozen books and articles. She is also a national expert in the fields of family law and domestic violence. She has given a talk at the International Conference on Mindfulness in Auckland, New Zealand, in February 2019 on the challenges of teaching mindfulness.
