SUMMARY:Deeper Mindfulness: Exploring feeling tone frame by frame (8-week course)
DESCRIPTION:Deeper Mindfulness: Exploring Feeling Tone Frame-by-Frame is an 8-week course developed by Professor Mark Williams and colleagues\, designed for you if you’ve already completed a mindfulness-based programme and you’d like to explore mindfulness more deeply.\nIt’s informed by recent psychological findings that reveal that every waking moment\, our understanding of the world is dominated by imagining how we can take action within it\, coloured by what is called ‘feeling tone’ – the moment-by-moment ‘read-out’ of whether a sensation\, thought or emotion feels pleasant\, unpleasant\, or neither. Based on this moment-by-moment ‘read out’\, the body allocates its resources as it gears up for real or imagined action. This can prepare us well for action\, but it can also put us at risk of becoming exhausted without our realising it.\nAncient traditions saw feeling tone (vedana) as a fundamental element of every moment of experience and a central aspect of mindfulness practice. Learning specific practices to help us become aware of feeling tone allows us to see clearly the very instant where we become caught up in pursuing or rejecting something and become entangled in a web of emotional distress. Meditation teacher Joseph Goldstein has said that mindfulness of feeling tone is one of the master keys that both reveals and unlocks the deepest patterns of our conditioning.\nDuring the 8 weekly sessions\, you’ll learn meditations that prepare you for\, then help you tune into\, feeling tone – frame-by-frame. This provides you with an opportunity to see more clearly both the tipping points for distress and exhaustion\, and also how to flourish by freeing yourself to appreciate life again\, even in the midst of difficulty.

SUMMARY:Branch Training: Mindfulness in Art
DESCRIPTION:Art has long played a powerful role in human experience – offering comfort\, sparking curiosity\, and helping us make sense of the world. In 2019\, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a report with 900 studies showing how the arts can support health and well-being. When combined with mindfulness\, the impact can be profound. \nThis skills and competencies programme for mindfulness teachers explores how mindfulness and the arts can come together to deepen practice\, foster emotional resilience\, and support mental health. Whether in museums\, galleries\, healthcare settings or community spaces\, mindful art engagement can help us connect more fully – to ourselves\, to others\, and to the present moment. \nDeveloped by Jolien Posthumus\, this specialist programme is designed for trained mindfulness teachers who want to integrate art-based approaches into their teaching. You’ll engage with evidence-based\, art-informed practices\, experience key exercises\, and develop grounded ways of weaving art into your mindfulness teaching\, supported through supervision and guidance.

SUMMARY:Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (MBCT)
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an 8-week group course recommended in national health guidelines for people who suffer from or have suffered from depression in the past. \nWeekly sessions are 2 hours and delivered online. They involve mindfulness meditation with cognitive therapy exercises to support you to become more aware of your mind and body and begin to dissolve some less helpful habits of thinking\, such as rumination\, worry and self-criticism. \nOver the past 15 years MBCT has become increasingly available within health services as the advantages of using this approach have become more established. \nIts popularity has increased as people are drawn to the central message of MBCT; that our lives are immeasurably impoverished by our habitual tendency to be on ‘automatic pilot’\, during which the richness of momentary experience passes unnoticed. MBCT helps us develop an alternative way of being with experience as we learn skills to more fully engage with our present experience\, to be ‘in the moment’. \nMBCT courses are delivered online in collaboration with the Nottingham Centre for Mindfulness\, located within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS)\, who have been providing MBCT to people accessing their clinical services since 2007. Their mindfulness teachers offer this intervention in a wide range of clinical settings.

SUMMARY:Half Day of Practice - Theme: Patience
DESCRIPTION:The session is 3 hours and includes guided sitting\, standing and movement practices of up to 30 minutes in length\, and some extended periods of silence. \nTypically\, each Day of Practice has a theme based on one of the attitudes we explore as part of both mindfulness practice and everyday experience. For example\, non-judging’\, ‘patience’\, ‘letting go’ etc. \nThe theme for this Day of Practice is ‘Patience’. \nThe practices won’t be exclusively about that attitude\, but may be explored with have a ‘flavour’ of the theme for that day. This might mean exploring ‘non-striving’ as part of the body scan or ‘allowing’ in a movement practice. \nThe Day of Practice is designed for those with an existing mindfulness practice\, as well as teachers (or trainee teachers) of mindfulness-based programmes. It meets the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA) Good Practice Guidelines by contributing towards annual retreat requirements.

SUMMARY:Taking it Further (12-week course)
DESCRIPTION:People often ask: “What happens next?” or “How can I keep up my practice?” Many people graduating an 8-week programme would like to continue the learning they have started and would welcome some guidance and support in this journey. \nThe Taking it Further course was developed to meet this need. It starts from the premise that all the themes within mindfulness-based courses can be explored for a lifetime\, conveying new insights that can be applied throughout people’s lives. The first major randomised controlled trial has demonstrated the effectiveness of the Taking it Further course: the skills learned have the potential to support increased wellbeing and flourishing. \nEspecially created for those who have completed an 8-week Mindfulness for Life or MBCT course\, this 12-theme course is structured to support a lifelong learning journey. Participants begin by reviewing what it means to wake up\, and to intentionally give attention\, energy and time to what brings them joy\, meaning and purpose. Over time\, they develop confidence to meet difficulty with kindness\, savour joy with appreciation\, align their choices with their deepest values\, and act with courage and authenticity. These three keys of mindfulness (awareness\, befriending and intention) extend to include a fourth – action. Together they are ways of being that can support people to live the life they aspire to.

SUMMARY:Day of Practice – Theme: Non-striving
DESCRIPTION:The session is 5 hours and includes guided sitting\, standing and movement practices of up to 30 minutes in length\, and some extended periods of silence. \nTypically\, each Day of Practice has a theme based on one of the attitudes we explore as part of both mindfulness practice and everyday experience. For example\, non-judging’\, ‘patience’\, ‘letting go’ etc. \nThe theme for this Day of Practice is ‘Non-striving’.

SUMMARY:Finding Peace in a Frantic World (8-week course)
DESCRIPTION:This mindfulness course is based on the best-selling book “Finding Peace in a Frantic World” by Professor Mark Williams\, our Founder\, and Dr. Danny Penman. \nIf you’re completely new to mindfulness – or perhaps you’ve tried mindfulness apps or other forms of learning – and would like to try a structured course led by an experienced teacher\, this course offers an engaging and practical introduction. \nThe 8 sessions (each 90 minutes) and home practice are slightly shorter than our 8-week Mindfulness for Life course so this course could be an option for you if you’re shorter on time\, or you’re looking for a slightly less intensive refresher course. \nThe course grew out of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)\, but has been designed for adults in a wide range of contexts\, including the general public\, workplaces\, university students\, and school teachers. \nIt supports your development of mindfulness skills to improve your well-being and resilience to stress.
