During my 20+ years as an educator, I have supported hundreds of middle and high school students as they navigate increasing academic, social, and emotional challenges. With the rise of stress, anxiety and depression in adolescents, particularly during this difficult time in our world, I am thankful for the opportunity to teach Mindful Self-Compassion to teens and children across the globe. MSC equips students with tools to manage stress, appreciate the moment, and recognize they are not alone in their struggles. Students develop strategies to acknowledge their feelings as they learn to understand their needs, identify their core values, and treat themselves with kindness and respect. The course cultivates connection, allowing teens to grow in their relationships with themselves and others. With the onset of the pandemic, Zoom has allowed me and my co-teacher, Dr. Kristie Engel, to reach more students in the comfort of their own homes. We are grateful for the privilege of guiding students through this nurturing and empowering program.
