DESCRIPTION:Deeper Mindfulness: exploring feeling tone Frame by Frame‘ is a new eight-week course developed by Mark Williams and colleagues for people who want to explore mindfulness more deeply. The online course runs on Wednesday evenings from 27 May 2026 and includes an optional one-day retreat on 20 June 2026. \nOverview​\nThis course allows people to explore an aspect of mindfulness that isn’t covered explicitly in other courses: ‘feeling tone.’ Feeling tone is a sense of the positive or negative that every human experiences and is the tipping point for our mood. \nDeeper Mindfulness is informed by recent psychological findings that reveal that every waking moment\, our understanding of the world is dominated by imagining how we can take action within it\, coloured by what is called ‘feeling tone.’ Feeling tone is the moment-by-moment ‘read-out’ of how much a sensation\, thought\, or emotion feels pleasant\, unpleasant\, or neither. Based on this moment-by-moment ‘read out\,’ the body allocates its resources as it gears up for real or imagined action. This can prepare us well for action\, but it can also put us at risk of becoming exhausted without our realising it. \nDuring the eight weekly sessions\, you will learn meditations that help you tune into feeling tone moment by moment\, frame by frame. This provides an opportunity to see more clearly both the tipping points for distress and exhaustion\, and also how to flourish by freeing yourself to appreciate life again\, even in the midst of difficulty. \nWho is the course for?\nThis course is designed for those who have already completed an eight-week mindfulness-based programme and want to explore mindfulness more deeply. DESCRIPTION:The session is 5 hours and includes guided sitting\, standing and movement practices of up to 30 minutes in length\, and some extended periods of silence. \nTypically\, each Day of Practice has a theme based on one of the attitudes we explore as part of both mindfulness practice and everyday experience. For example\, non-judging’\, ‘patience’\, ‘letting go’ etc. \nThe theme for this Day of Practice is ‘Non-striving’. \nThe practices won’t be exclusively about that attitude\, but may be explored with have a ‘flavour’ of the theme for that day. This might mean exploring ‘non-striving’ as part of the body scan or ‘allowing’ in a movement practice. \nThe Day of Practice is designed for those with an existing mindfulness practice\, as well as teachers (or trainee teachers) of mindfulness-based programmes. It meets the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA) Good Practice Guidelines by contributing towards annual retreat requirements.

DESCRIPTION:Retreat Description: This retreat will use the thought of Wang Yang-Ming (1472–1529) as a way of entering into the Buddha’s understanding of practical ethics—how we should live and who we should become. Ethical cultivation lies at the heart of both the Buddha’s teaching and classical Chinese civilisation\, while the practice of mindfulness supports inquiry and develops the “innate knowing” that unifies understanding and action. In this retreat\, we will bring these perspectives together as a living practice of self-cultivation in the multi-cultural world in which we live. \nThis 7-night silent retreat will include: \nSustained periods of silence\, alternating sitting and walking meditation \nPeriods of gentle mindful movement/stretching \nMeditation instructions on cultivating mindfulness \nAdditional practice guidance to strengthen kindness throughout the day \nDharma talks \nPeriods of mindfulness work and rest \nRegular private interviews with the retreat teachers \nThe container of Silence includes refraining from speaking (except with the teachers as scheduled and as needed)\, reading\, writing (except to record meditation experience)\, and technology\, with the exception of emergencies of course. It is a rare opportunity to slow down and give our hearts and minds some space to access our inner wisdom and compassion. \nJoin us to nourish and sustain your practice\, in a safe and beautiful environment\, with wonderful healthy food and supported by experienced teachers. \nABOUT THE RETREAT TEACHERS \nPatrick Kearney has practised mindfulness meditation (satipaṭṭhāna vipassanā) since 1977. He is a senior Dharma teacher and has taught mindfulness meditation full-time for over 20 years\, both in Australia and abroad. Most of Patrick’s practise has been in the insight meditation lineage of Mahāsī Sayādaw of Burma\, which included several years as a Buddhist monk. His main teachers were Sayādaw U Paṇḍita and John Hale. He has also trained in the Diamond Sangha lineage of Zen Buddhism. He has studied early Buddhism at post-graduate levels and has a particular interest in the original teachings of the Buddha\, before the invention of “Buddhism.” This allows him to bring the radical insights of the Buddha to our contemporary situation. \nCarmen Teo\, EdD\, E-RYT 500\, has practiced yoga since 2004 and discovered mindfulness meditation in 2007 as a graduate student in the US. She found her life transformed in bittersweet ways through self-inquiry and exploring the wisdom traditions of Yoga and Buddhism. Carmen’s root practice is in the Theravada Thai Forest tradition of Ajahn Chah and the Mahasi tradition\, with Patrick Kearney as her primary Dharma teacher. A dedicated meditator\, she has attended more than 20 silent retreats. Carmen has been a teacher\, teachers’ mentor and researcher of contemporary mindfulness and yoga for the last fourteen years\, including serving as a MBSR Teacher Mentor with UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness and completing her doctoral research on mindfulness and its teaching practice. \nWHO IS THIS FOR? \nThis silent retreat is open to individuals who would like to further develop their mindfulness meditation practice. Some experience with mindfulness meditation is expected. \nIn addition\, this retreat is also for those already teaching or interested in teaching mindfulness-based programs (MBP) such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction\, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy\, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention Therapy and Mindful Self-Compassion. The Retreat meets the silent retreat requirements for teacher training and certification for all Mindfulness-Based Interventions. \n*Note: A silent meditation retreat may not be suitable for some people currently seeking psychiatric treatments\, recently experiencing distressing life situations\, or with severe unresolved traumas. SUMMARY:Half Day of Practice – Theme: Acceptance
DESCRIPTION:The session is 3 hours and includes guided sitting\, standing and movement practices of up to 30 minutes in length\, and some extended periods of silence. \nTypically\, each Day of Practice has a theme based on one of the attitudes we explore as part of both mindfulness practice and everyday experience. For example\, non-judging’\, ‘patience’\, ‘letting go’ etc. \nThe theme for this Day of Practice is ‘Acceptance’. \nThe practices won’t be exclusively about that attitude\, but may be explored with have a ‘flavour’ of the theme for that day. This might mean exploring ‘non-striving’ as part of the body scan or ‘allowing’ in a movement practice. \nThe Day of Practice is designed for those with an existing mindfulness practice\, as well as teachers (or trainee teachers) of mindfulness-based programmes. It meets the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA) Good Practice Guidelines by contributing towards annual retreat requirements.
