Mindfulness Book Club and Meditation Challenge: Real Happiness by Sharon Salzberg

August 4, 2020 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 pm UTC+0

The Real Happiness Challenge is a 4 week exploration of the tools of meditation shared by well known mindfulness teacher Sharon Salzberg in her best selling book ‘Real Happiness’. Whether you are new to meditation or looking to refresh or deepen your practice, don’t miss the opportunity to study and practice from this engaging and inspirational work by one of the world’s leading authorities on the practices of the heart and mind. Offered simultaneously in person on site (seats limited) and live via Zoom. We will assume you are attending remotely unless you contact us to let us know you wish to attend in person.

Four Tuesday evenings in August from 7-8:30 pm Central Time

There are two steps to securing your seat in this offering:
1. Register using the link
2. Purchase your pass(es)
$60 for MAM members
$80 for nonmembers

Commit to Practice
When you register to join the Challenge, you are also making the formal commitment to yourself to read Real Happiness so that you may participate fully in the class, and to meditate every day during the month of the challenge. You can purchase the book through the following vendors: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, Workman, Dharma Crafts.

Deepen your Practice
On the first day of the month ad thereafter you will receive regular emails from the teacher that include teachings from Real Happiness, guided meditations, practice tips, and answers to frequently asked questions related to the practice.

Share your Practice
Participants have the option to share their experiences by keeping a personal practice diary online. These posts will offer an honest peek into the life of fellow participants in the class who are engaged in practice, deconstructing many of the expectations we have for our own process.

Each week of the Challenge explores a different type of meditation practice to cultivate greater focus, clarity, kindness and resilience:

Week 1 (Concentration Practice)
Week one introduces the core techniques of concentration practice by working with the natural breath. Learn Sharon’s masterful approach to the process of engaged awareness and the secret ingredient for any practice: the art of beginning again.

Week 2 (Mindfulness of the Body)
Week two introduces mindfulness practice by moving the awareness into the body. Learn Sharon’s approach to walking meditation, a body scan meditation and a few meditations that incorporate common household tasks.

Week 3 (Mindfulness of Emotions)
Week three continues with mindfulness practice, shifting to the rich terrain of emotions and thoughts. This includes working with difficult emotions and also cultivating positive emotions for greater balance and resilience.

Week 4 (Lovingkindness Practice)
Week four introduces the methods of lovingkindness practice, exploring how and who we pay attention to. The week also includes the cultivation of compassion for ourselves, as well as walking loving-kindness practice.

**No refunds on or after the enrollment deadline. Passes expire one year from purchase. In the case of cancellation by the teacher for under-enrollment or any other reason, a full refund will be provided. All participants in our offerings must have a signed waiver on file with MAM.
