Journeys with Mindfulness – a research piece on the lived experience of mindfulness
August 17, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm BST

Tutors: Chloe Asker
Chloe says: The zine ‘Journeys with mindfulness’ is a creative output from my doctoral research, which explored the therapeutic cultures and experiences of mindfulness and meditation. The zine contains six stories from participants about their journeys and experiences with mindfulness. These experiences demonstrate the ways in which mindfulness becomes integrated into the everyday lives of people who practice it, shaping their ways of being in the world and subsequently transforming their lives. I wanted to share these stories more widely and as I grew increasingly frustrated with the bulky and dense format of a doctoral thesis, I sought to create a creative, impactful output from the research that would be short, accessible, enjoyable to read, interactive, and easy to disseminate. This presentation will explore the conception, development and co-production of the zine, alongside presenting research from my doctoral thesis.
Rebecca Crane, Director of the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, Bangor University, whose work inspired Chloe, will also be joining us to lead short practice.
This event is offered in collaboration with the Mindfulness Network Community Friends (MNCF) – an initiative to engage the wider mindfulness community and reach new audiences. Led by a Committee of Volunteers, supported by the Mindfulness Network, we work together to run a programme of donation-based events and inspiring content. You are welcome to visit the Community Friends area of our Community site, which is open to all, for more opportunities to practice and learn together: https://community.mindfulness-network.org/course/view.php?id=72
In order to participate in the workshop, you will need:
A room where you can close the door and engage in the workshop away from family distraction. It is particularly important that confidentiality is maintained by ensuring that those who are not on the event cannot see your screen or hear the audio. It may be helpful to use headphones.
Log in via a computer which is resting on a hard surface and which has audio and webcam. Please don’t use handheld devices.
A space for practice, a mat, cushion and blanket may be helpful for your comfort.
Our freely-offered events are part of an initiative called the Mindfulness Network Community Friends. As a charity we want to continue to provide opportunities for mindfulness practice to all. If you would like to make a donation, no matter how small, can do so here: https://home.mindfulness-network.org/donate/
