Free Art Workshop: The Space You Occupy

September 16, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-4

Free

“The Space You Occupy“. This refers to both our inner space of mind, body, heart and spirit as well as the space we occupy within our environments. Each session has a brief introduction followed by a guided centering/grounding mindfulness practice which serves as the underpinning for the art activity.

The mindfulness practice is one of centering along 4 dimensions, length (dignity), width boundaries), depth ( our knowledge and what supports that) and our core values which infuse all dimensions.

All art activities involve some form of collage (representing our diverse experiences and multiple ways in which we are in the world coming together through creativity and play.)

These practices, which we call, “The Space You Occupy”set the stage for participation in the “Hope Story Scrolls Project.”

The Hope Story Scrolls Project is one which emphasizes the importance of self-continuity as an essential element of healing and is centered in the language of hope.

Scrolls are symbolic of petitions that are instruments of resistance since the early 1600’s in America. Each participant will have the opportunity to reflect on their history and its arc of protest, affirmation and healing. The collage scrolls use accessible recycled materials in strip forms as visual petitions for survival and change. Participants share their stories of transformation, make their scrolls. They may submit their images digitally to be included in our on-line archive.
