Crossing the Bridge From Self-Care to Other-Care and Back: Building Resilience from Stress

You are invited to experience an immersive CE learning retreat at a Healing Hotels of the World.

This workshop will teach simple methods for adding evidence-based mind and body strategies into your daily routine and work with others. You will learn how to assess stress, burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious traumatization. You will learn and practice with biofeedback technology to review and “see” physiological functioning in real-time, while applying evidence-based relaxation and stress reduction strategies. You will have the opportunity to explore and test relaxation strategies for improved physiological response (discover what really works on your nervous system and what does not). We hope you will apply this skillful learning to personalize your approach to self-care and caring for and treating others. We will be learning how to use techniques from positive psychology, acceptance, and commitment (ACT), and compassion-focused approaches to increase the capacity to comfort, protect and validate yourself, as well as to motivate and challenge others in various circumstances. Research has shown that learning how to be self-compassionate and enhance self-efficacy also helps us expand our compassion for others. Self-compassion and self-efficacy are strongly associated with increasing emotional wellbeing, coping with life challenges, lowering levels of pain, anxiety, and depression, improving healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and experiencing more satisfying personal relationships. The learning material is designed to improve your success in treating, teaching, or providing any kind of caregiving to others with compassion versus empathy, to lessen the risk of personal and professional fatigue. Those in the helping field can explore how patients and themselves benefit from these self-regulation approaches. Practice will focus on evidenced-based strategies for applying these treatment modalities to facilitate effective coping and stress management. Care will be given to the importance of taking into consideration unique individual differences and exploring various cultural factors that should be taken into consideration in when applying strategies in a multiculturally-sensitive manner.

Dr. Urszula Klich is a clinical psychologist, speaker, and author who teaches self-regulation to maximize physical and emotional health. She is a certified meditation teacher in Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT) through Emory University and has served on various medical teams. She is board certified in biofeedback and is the president of the Southeast Biofeedback and Clinical Neuroscience Association. Her specialized program using Mindfulness, Compassion, and Biofeedback has been published and widely applied from hospitals to classrooms based on the premise that integrating mindfulness and compassion-informed treatment with psychology fosters individuals’ healing power to improve physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Living mindfully is advantageous and accessible to anyone who recognizes a need for a shift in their life and sets an intention to move forward.

SCHOLARSHIPS: We reserve a number of partial scholarships for potential attendees who could not otherwise afford to come. We give particular priority given to those who would add diverse and underrepresented voices to our field. To submit an application, please inquire after submitting your retreat workshop interest online.

AUDIENCE
Anyone interested in healing and self-care. Professionals in the health, wellness, and mental fields. This can include, but is not limited to, Psychologists, Physicians, Nurses, Physical and Occupational Therapists. Social Workers, Certified Counselors, teachers or other fields where mindfulness, compassion, and self-regulation are beneficial. This approach is designed to be useful in a variety of contexts, including group and individual settings, clinics, wellness centers, self-help/coaching relationships, and other professional and interpersonal settings.

SCHEDULE
Workshop retreat begins Saturday March 18th- and concludes late afternoon Wednesday October 22nd. Ample time is provided for rest and retreat practices. Those who need may use that time to attend to work responsibilities.
