Professor Pittman is an educator, business consultant and creative artist. After twenty plus years with Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies, she started her own consulting business offering organizational leadership and diversity and inclusion planning for companies, non-profits, and educational facilities. With her range of skills, she currently designs and delivers specialized workshops on mindfulness, self-care and compassion, cultural sensitivity and competency, and on reducing bias through mindful practices. Lakiba was the Director for the Office of Diversity at Notre Dame de Namur for 6 years and an adjunct professor for 4 years. She’s currently an adjunct professor and lecturer at Menlo College teaching Diversity in the Workplace, Culture in Media & Race & Racism. Lakiba teaches public and private classes and workshops on mindfulness, compassion, wellness, and self-care. Professor Pittman is currently a doctoral student in Psychology with co-specializations in Consciousness, Spirituality & Integrated Health and Transformative Social Change at Saybrook University. Additionally, Lakiba will complete certification as an Applied Compassion Ambassador through Stanford's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education in November 2021. Her research interests include the efficacy of mindfulness-based pedagogies in healing trauma, methods to heal racism and the isms of the day and the power of connection, community and compassion in healing and transforming individuals and communities. Professor Pittman is the author of “Bread Crumbs From The Soul: Finding Your Way Back Home” – a book of her art, poetry and stories from her life.
